The roof of the car is transparent, as well as some of part of sides of electric hybrid. The body forced with plastic and carbon fiber, and the colored stripes and lines give exclusive “futuristic” look for car.
The car looks like the car of BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics, which was present at the Motor Show in Frankfurt. Concept car BMW i8 is a hybrid, which is equipped with two transmissions: electric, which is responsible for transmission and front-wheel drive, and three-cylinder gasoline engine, which is responsible for the back axle.
Both transmissions can be used independently or together. Exact this feature allows you to overcome any type of roads with i8. Lithium-ion battery is placed between the passenger seats and electric power gives 96 kW/h (which is equal to 131 horse power). To recharge the battery you should plugs the cable into an outlet at 240 volts.
The capacity of the battery without charging is enough for 32 kilometers, which is suitable for road in town areas at low speeds. Thereby, BMW helps to reduce exhaust pollution in the city. After battery charge is exhausted, 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with a turbine with a capacity of 223 hp will power the car. Also, hybrid has an internal generator that recharges the battery while using the gasoline engine.
The car accelerates to 100 km / h in 5.9 seconds – the same technical characteristic has Fisker Karma, electric hybrid, which recently went on sale. Maximum speed of i8 is 250 km / h. The BMW’s specialists notes that the two transmissions perfectly harmonize each other. They not only provide the activation of AWD (All Wheel Drive) for maximum productiveness, but also recharge the battery while driving, and it helps to increases the range of the car.
BMW has not announced the price of the hybrid. But we already know that i8 will be available in 2013.
